An Environmental Problem!

At the heart of the earths current environmental problems is Carbon and The Carbon Cycle.

For millenia, the Earth has maintained a natural carbon balance across the 4 main Carbon stores or ‘sinks’ on the planet.

• The soil (including deep soil carbon stored as coal & other fossil fuels)

• The atmosphere.

When concentrations of carbon dioxide (CO2) are upset, the system gradually returns to its natural state. This natural readjustment works slowly, compared to the rapid rate at which humans are moving carbon into the atmosphere by burning fossil fuels.

Natural carbon removal can't keep pace, so the concentration of CO2 in the atmosphere increases.

An Environmental Effect!

An increase in atmospheric carbon from burning fossil fuels thickens the greenhouse layer or blanket that surrounds the planet.

This thicker layer holds more heat in the atmosphere resulting in global warming.
